The ABC promoted entertainment executive Nick Hayden, who created the iso comedy Home alone together, Whovians, tonight and the Australia speaks Live show up to head of entertainment department.
Hayden will drive the entertainment board underneath Gruen, Hard Quiz, Mad As Hell, The Weekly, you can’t ask that and the coming call rehab.
His appointment completes a reorganization of the content departments that resulted in the departure of entertainment director and clerk Josie Mason-Campbell.
Last week, Jennifer Collins was named ABC’s first director of fact and culture, overseeing development and production in the arts, religion, science, education, health, history and social affairs.
Previously, Todd Abbott came on board as Head of Comedy, a role that was filled in acting capacity by a number of executives following the departure of Rick Kalowski.

Sally Riley, ABC’s director of drama, entertainment and indigenous content, said: “Nick has shown great instinct and drive for the development and production of entertainment shows. He has a passion and enthusiasm for new ideas and talent, along with a genuine interest in promoting and protecting ABC’s current shows.”
Hayden said: “The ABC has always been the home of creative risk-taking – where else would you be allowed to do a new show in six weeks in the middle of a pandemic? The film industry needs that kind of support now more than ever, so it’s a real honor to take on the role of entertainment director at an organization I love.”
The entertainment board also includes Tomorrow Tonight, Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery, Sammy J, The Yearly, The Melbourne International Comedy Festivalthe New Year’s fireworks, dream gardenslive music show The sentence and documentary Recovery: The Music and the Chaos.
Before joining ABC, he founded and was the Executive Producer of SBS the lining and a member of the ABC’s current news program hungry beastunder Andrew Denton and Anita Jacoby.
Earlier in his career, he was a producer/host for the Foxtel Movie Show and a senior producer for Network 10.
