Comanches look to improve after winless 2021 campaign

The West Texas Comanches line up for a drill during their morning practice Monday August 1, 2022 in Stinnett, TX.

STINNETT — The West Texas High football team is ready to put the 2021 season in the rearview mirror.

Last fall, there wasn’t much to cheer for a program that scored 66 points en route to finishing last season 0-10. After an offseason filled with plenty of fuel for self-improvement, the Comanches trotted onto the field together for the first time Monday morning to officially kick off the new season.

This fall, players hope to return to competitive football and capitalize on the program’s track record of previous years, including 10-Win campaigns in 2018 and 2019.

“We want to win games,” said West Texas coach Zach Ramos. “We don’t shy away from the fact that we didn’t win one last year. It pushed the kids a bit. We had camp last week and it was something that the players themselves were talking about and how we can fix that.
