(CCCB ? Ottawa)... His Holiness Pope Francis today named the Most Reverend Gary Gordon as Bishop of Victoria. At the time of his appointment, he was Bishop of Whitehorse, Yukon. Bishop Gordon succeeds the Most Reverend Richard Gagnon who was appointed Archbishop of Winnipeg on October 28, 2013. Archbishop Gagnon served as Apostolic Administrator of Victoria until he was installed as Archbishop of Winnipeg on January 3, 2014. Since then, the Reverend John Laszczyk has been Diocesan Administrator of Victoria.
His Holiness Pope Francis today accepted the resignation of the Most Reverend Nicola De Angelis, C.F.I.C., as Bishop of Peterborough, and named as his successor the Most Reverend William Terrence McGrattan. At the time of his appointment, the Bishop-elect was Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto.

James Weisgerber as Archbishop of Winnipeg, and named as his successor the Most Reverend Richard Gagnon. At the time of his appointment, the Archbishop-elect was Bishop of Victoria. Archbishop Weisgerber has been responsible for the Archdiocese for the past 13 years. He had offered his resignation to the Holy Father when reaching the age of 75, as required by the Code of Canon Law.

At the time of his appointment, the Bishop-elect was President of Corpus Christi and St. Mark’s Colleges, Vancouver. The new Bishop becomes the first Canadian episcopal appointment by Pope Francis.

At the time of his appointment, he was Bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith. He succeeds the Most Reverend Sylvain Lavoie, O.M.I., whose resignation had been accepted by the Holy Father on 16 July 2012 for reasons of health. Since then, Father William Stang, O.M.I., has served as the Apostolic Administrator of Keewatin-Le Pas.
CCCB – Ottawa)… His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI today named Msgr. Serge Poitras, P.H., Bishop of Timmins. At the time of his appointment, Msgr. Poitras was Adjunct Under Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops at the Holy See. He succeeds the Most Reverend Paul Marchand, S.M.M., who died in office July 24, 2011, at the age of 74. Since then, the Reverend Patrick D. Lafleur has been Diocesan Administrator of Timmins.
(CCCB – Ottawa)… His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI today named the Reverend Paul Terrio as Bishop of Saint-Paul, Alberta. At the time of his appointment, he was President of the Newman Theological College in the Archdiocese of Edmonton. He succeeds the Most Reverend Luc Bouchard who was appointed Bishop of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, on February 2, 2012. Bishop Bouchard remained Diocesan Administrator of Saint-Paul until his official installation as Bishop of Trois-Rivières on March 26, 2012. Since then, Father Peter Tran has served as the Diocesan Administrator of Saint-Paul.
Subsequent to the appointment of The Most Reverend Valéry Vienneau as Archbishop of Moncton, the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Bathurst on August 31, 2012, elected Father Wesley Wade as Diocesan Administrator of Bathurst, as required by Canon 421 §1.
Dr. Margaret O’Gara, Professor of Theology at the University of St. Michael’s College, Toronto, died on August 16 at the age of 65. Dr. O’Gara generously assisted the Bishops of Canada over the course of her career, most particularly in the area of ecumenical relations.
On July 16, 2012, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, accepted the resignation of the Most Reverend Sylvain Lavoie, O.M.I., Archbishop of Keewatin – Le Pas, Manitoba, according to canon 401, §2, and at the same time appointed Father William Stang, O.M.I., as Apostolic Administrator of the same Archdiocese.
