COC cooperates with Canada Games – Team Canada

TORONTO (August 5, 2022) – On Friday, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) announced a partnership with the Canada Games Council, including a $250,000 pledge to support the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games and their role as part of the athletes’ journey .

This partnership is an extension of COC’s mission to transform Canada through the power of sport.

“While many Canada Games graduates have become Olympians and household names, this partnership is about more than promoting sporting success,” said David Shoemaker, CEO and Secretary General of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “It’s about sharing our Olympic values ​​with young athletes from across the country and strengthening a safe, inclusive and accessible Canadian sports system.”

The partnership and the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ontario begin tonight with the Canada Games Hall of Honor induction ceremony. Two Olympians will be part of the 2022 class – Michael Strange (boxing) and Steve Nash (basketball).

“Canadian Olympians are inspiring the next generation of young athletes to achieve their dreams, much like the Canada Games is sparking greatness in future athletes and leaders on and off the field,” said Kelly-Ann Paul, President and CEO of the Canada Games Council. “The Canada Games is an important milestone in the development of many elite athletes, coaches and officials who aspire to represent Canada at the highest level in sport. We are grateful for the support of the COC to further empower Canada Games participants to achieve excellence.”

The Canada Games brings together athletes without disabilities and athletes with physical and mental disabilities for the largest amateur multisport event in the country. Alternating between winter and summer, they feature over 30 different sports to showcase the best of Canadian sport and spirit.

The 2022 edition will be held August 6-21 in Ontario’s Niagara region and will see more than 5,000 athletes and coaches compete across 18 sports.
