Leeds 2-1 Wolves: Rayan Ait-Nouri own goal puts Jesse Marsch’s soft restart off to a winning start

Rayan Ait-Nouri scores an own goal at Elland Road
For the third game in a row, Leeds avoided defeat by Wolves after falling behind

Leeds United’s smooth restart under manager Jesse Marsch got off to a winning start as Rayan Ait-Nouri’s own goal gave them a comeback win over Wolves in a lively game at Elland Road.

It’s been a summer of change for the Whites, leading to Marsch fielding four debutants on Saturday as part of a rebuilt squad looking to produce effective pressing and direct play in America’s favour.

They suffered an early blow when Daniel Podence’s bounce found its way over goalkeeper Illan Meslier to put Wolves ahead in the sixth minute.

But the home side rallied and equalized through Rodrigo’s low, angled drive midway through a first half where they were roared at by a hostile home crowd.

Despite an exhausted attack missing the injured Raul Jimenez, Wolves came out with momentum in the second half and got the nerves ringing by threatening a winner of their own.

But instead Leeds struck when, under pressure from superb debutant Brenden Aaronson, Ait-Nouri pierced Patrick Bamford’s superb low cross from close range into his own net.
