Shining the Spotlight on Athletes and Builders: Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on June 17th

The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner will be held at the Best Western on June 17, 2022, the Board of Directors recently announced.

The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame group is preparing to shine a spotlight on their latest inductees.

The third annual induction dinner will be held on June 17 at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Center, the group recently announced.

And tickets are available now. Dinner is in the Main Ballroom, with cocktails at 5:30pm and dinner at 6:30pm. The induction ceremony will follow, organizers said, noting that masking is optional for the evening.

Initiates for 2022 are: Paul Allen, Heather Brown, Allan Burnham, Roger Cole, Elaine Devlin, Gail Johns-Rees, Ross Quigley, and Dick and Ann Raymond.

This evening will also see the inaugural Ross Quigley Youth in Sport Awards Ceremony.

This award was created to honor the memory of the late Quigley who was the founder of the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame.

The prize, which is associated with a scholarship, is awarded to two students each year. It aims to support student-athletes by recognizing and rewarding their athletic, academic and community achievements and commitment through financial support for their continuing education, the organizers explained.

The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame was created in recent years thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers who strive to preserve local sports history. They have also collected and cataloged sports memorabilia and historical information that is displayed online and with memorabilia in the CCC’s main hall. The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame is supported through donations of materials, services and financial contributions from local individuals and community groups. This dinner also supports the efforts of the group.

The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame includes the areas of the City of Cobourg, the Alderville First Nation, and the townships of Alnwick/Haldimand, Cramahe, and Hamilton.
