Planning for the Sports Fest is now underway as the event returns for Summer 2022.
Sports Fest is back for its 10th anniversary and celebrates it with a wide range of sports and wellness activities suitable for all ages and abilities.
Sports Fest perfectly coincides with the summer holidays, with activities taking place every day from 10am to 4pm in Coventry city centre.
This year the event is being run by Coventry City Council in partnership with CV Life and EnV Coventry. Activities are also hosted by a number of community organizations and sports clubs.
Councilor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport said:
“Sports Fest is loved by so many residents so I’m delighted to have it back.
“Sports Fest began 10 years ago as ‘Sports Week’ as a legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games, so it is very special that the year in which Coventry hosts the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is being marked for the 10th time .
“This is one of my favorite events that we run for Coventry residents and visitors to the city. Each year there are free activities to be enjoyed by families and individuals of all ages and abilities. I look forward to once again hosting this event in Coventry city centre.”
Previous sports festivals that were held attracted thousands of residents and visitors. In 2019 more than 14,000 people took part in 10 days and in 2021 more than 10,000 came in six days.
Wendy Jackson, Community Engagement Manager, CV Life said:
“CV Life is delighted to be part of Sports Fest this year. As always the event will be great and I hope we will see many happy faces and families will enjoy what is on offer.
“Local clubs, groups and organizations will be offering a whole range of activities to connect with a wide range of age groups and this year we will be running a range of activities aimed at older people to ensure that we are like that are as inclusive as possible. “
This year Sports Fest also celebrates Coventry hosting judo, wrestling and rugby sevens for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Once again EnV Coventry Ambassadors and City Hosts – who have supported the event since 2012 – will be supporting the event and promoting the sports and activities on offer.
David Boughey, Managing Director of EnV said:
“We are delighted to be a part of Sports Fest again, especially on the 10th anniversary. Being involved in this event since it started in 2012 makes it even more special for us at EnV and our Coventry Ambassadors and City Hosts are looking really good and looking forward to attending.
“The event will be another platform for our volunteers to get involved in a brilliant local event while delivering a range of wellbeing messages to support local people.”
CV Life is looking for local clubs and organizations to offer sports and wellness activities during the event. If your club is interested in this opportunity please email [email protected]
