BTS fans are dubbed “Bullys” by journalist Carolyn Hinds, ARMYs turntables by the #BullyedByArmys trend

BTS and their fans have created a whole new world for themselves and it seems like ARMYs (fans of BTS) now have no negative comments about the boys or themselves as the group’s fandom. Twitter fan wars have now become commonplace, which is why most fans usually discredit the hate comments online and enjoy the safe space of following and interacting with fans of the same K-pop groups. Since BTS rose to worldwide fame, the boy band has amassed many more fans than before. With more fans came more trolls who bullied the boys. This led to ARMYs being extremely protective of the boy band.

ARMYs often banded together online against trolls, calling out their actions to induce them to retreat. This “trait” became one of the most notorious traits of BTS fans, as the fandom was known for protecting members with everything they had. There have been instances in the past where ARMY’s demands for apologies have been taken seriously by those who trolled BTS members, but when it comes to ARMY’s themselves, the fandom has a different approach to dealing with the hatred they receive .

BTS fans prove no one can troll them better than themselves by trending #BullyedByARMYs on Twitter (Big Hit Music)

What is #BullyedByArmys on Twitter?

ARMYs have often been under the radar of many fandoms because they don’t hold back when it comes to flaunting the achievements of BTS. One such incident occurred on May 30, when a well-known journalist, Carolyn Hinds, took to Twitter to update BTS fandom on how they bullied the journalist. Hinds asked people to speak up about how ARMYs had bullied them in the past so a record of the fandom’s wrongful actions could be kept. It seems like ARMYs didn’t have it because as soon as the hashtag #BullyedByArmys started floating around, fans themselves started tweeting it.

The journalist said: “Let me add this hashtag #BuliedByARMYs right here. Anyone who wants to share how they’ve been harassed and hurt by fandom is welcome to use it. Something needs to be done and they and the group need to be called out and held accountable for what happened.” This comes after fans called Hinds for defaming the boy band after the journalist explained that BTS underestimated it, to visit the White House as they condoned toxic behavior from their fandom. Contrary to what Hinds had in mind, ARMYs began to embrace the hashtag, mentioning the most outrageous incidents under the guise of “exposing” BTS fans, only to joke about ARMYs calling themselves “Lilac Lieutenants” or “Lilac Cadets” called a joke.

This reaction from ARMYs comes after learning the hard way that they must choose their battles and focus on BTS, who will soon be making a comeback with their anthology album Proof. In the past, fans of other K-pop groups have hailed the group for its international success, but ARMYs took responsibility for the trolling, coming up with the hashtag #AndNothingForKpop, which said how the boy band broke every record in history and left nothing for other K-pop idols.

“How it started vs. how it’s going”

Here are some of the funniest reactions from fans to the #BuliedByARMYs hashtag on Twitter. One fan joked: “Please don’t get me wrong. Please respect other people. Today, while I was with my family, a group of girls approached me and asked, “Are you Tae’s wife?” This is a complete invasion of privacy. Yes, I AM, but please respect it. i want some space thanks.” Another fan said, “Twt armies let’s not forget our real enemy weverse armies who has been bullying us from this app.” Another fan joked, “Imagine BTS waking up and seeing the Hashtag #BulliedByArmys and Namjoon gets ready to defend the fuck us until he sees this and just sighs in disappointment.”

One fan said, “When I miss a live, they flood my mentions with this video #BullyedByArmys.” One fan said, “I experienced my own bullying at the hands of the purple lieutenants this afternoon when they denied the relationship between me and Yoongi. Another fan said, “There are no bigger bullies than @I_Am_Spring_Day and @i_am_bts_ddaeng how they bully each other oh lord.” Another fan said, “Min Yoongi is the main victim of these purple cadets, they bully him literally every time.” , saying ‘YOONGI MARRY ME’ even though he’s married and living happily with his six husbands.” One fan said, “I will NEVER forget how ARMY bullied BB. It went on for weeks!!!”
