South Carolina football is trending into the 2024 recruit class for a top-200 quarterback, Dante Reno.
If things go as some college football recruiting experts think in the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes for South Carolina football, the Gamecocks will land consecutive four-star quarterbacks.
In the 2023 class, Dylan Lonergan is one of the top ranked signal callers not yet committed and he is 81st overall according to the On3.com consensus ranking. Lonergan also ranks ninth among quarterbacks.
Getting him into the 2023 class would be a big step on its own, and the Gamecocks are currently leading according to the On3 prediction engine, which currently gives South Carolina football a 60 percent chance of winning its engagement. The Crystal Ball projections also went the Gamecocks’ way this week with two, both with a confidence rating of six or higher.
That’s not the only good news for South Carolina lately, though. The Gamecocks got a signing from a four-star offensive lineman Trovon Baugh (per On3 rankings) on Saturday, and also this week USC got a huge pair of crystal ball projections for 2024.
QB Dante Reno projects to South Carolina Football
Like I said when the Gamecocks added Baugh, Beamer is getting a reputation as a really solid recruiter. South Carolina Football was 23rd overall in the 2022 class and also added former five-star Spencer Rattler to the transfer portal.
Now South Carolina has received two crystal ball projections for 2024 four-star quarterback Dante Reno, who is ranked 186th overall as well as 16th among QBs according to 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
A native of Windsor, Connecticut, Reno is 6-foot-1, 215 pounds. Based in Massachusetts, he has shown a keen interest in the Gamecocks since March and has been to campus twice since, with another trip scheduled for June.
The consensus four-star quarterback is also attracting significant interest from Georgia, LSU and Florida. He has also unofficially visited Clemson twice.
But Beamer, whose father spent years coaching at Virginia Tech in the Northeast, has developed a really strong relationship with Reno, who is likely to end up in South Carolina, according to the On3.com prediction engine, which put the Gamecocks’ percentage at 39.
We’ll see if South Carolina can finish with both, but for now it’s clear they’re favorites for both.
