Watch: Monkeys hug during touching reunion, netizens say ‘how human’

It is said that love is a universal emotion. There are many similarities between humans and animals when it comes to showing affection, and a recent video shared by Susanta Nanda, an Indian Forest Service officer, proves it.

The video shared by Nanda on Monday showed a group of monkeys rejoicing when they met. In the undated video, two adult monkeys, each carrying a baby, are seen approaching each other and hugging. A monkey transfers the child it is carrying to another while everyone remains tightly hugged.

The monkeys also make smacking gestures. According to the Primate Rescue Center, “Lip-smacking is a social behavior that usually results in friendly interactions among monkeys in a social group.”

While sharing the video, Susanta Nanda tweeted, “When the family got together after the pandemic.”

So far, the small 14-second clip has been viewed over 29,000 times and garnered thousands of likes.

Commenting on the video, one Twitter user wrote, “Really the unconditional love they felt after the pandemic is too impressive and possessive.”

Another person remarked, “How human is that! Taking the baby first, then all the hugs and smiles/whatever that expression is, just beautiful and so human! More humane than the warring Putinists.”

Monkeys are known to be highly intelligent animals that often display human-like emotions. Able to adapt to the urban environment, the primates are often known to use skills such as negotiation and stealing.
