It’s been a few days since a boycott against perfectionist Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starring ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was trending on social media.
The most talked about movie hits the big screen this month on August 11, but on social media the hashtag isn’t quite so comfortable “Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha”.
Here are the possible reasons why Aamir Khan’s Forrest Gump is being boycotted ahead of its release:
Khan’s controversial “PK” film
Before its release in 2014, Aamir Khan leading actor PK was embroiled in controversy, with Hindu outfits calling for the film to be banned for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Complaints were filed in several parts of the country, with organizations claiming that the film satirized Hindu gods and that its content was “highly provocative”.
Remarks on “rising intolerance” in India
The boycott hashtag reportedly started trending after part of the internet dug up bits of Aamir’s 2015 interview in which he spoke about the “growing intolerance” in the country.
Khan met the Turkish first lady
Trolls dug up Aamir Khan’s meeting with Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdogan while filming for Laal Singh Chaddha. Erdogan had shared some photos with the actor, which Indians had sparked because Erdogan had made comments on the Delhi riots in the past, calling them “massacres of Muslims”.
Let’s take a look at the memes and hashtags advocating a complete boycott of the film:

The guy who traveled thousands of miles in a business class plane, burned tons of fossil fuels and spent millions of rupees just to perform a silly ritual of collecting rocks and throwing them at a wall, stops it a waste to offer 10 Rs milk for Shivling 🤷🤷#Aamir Khan #BoycottLalSinghChaddha pic.twitter.com/dKeGZ0fQfi

There is reportedly a scene where Babri is destroyed #LalSinghChaddha Movie. These Bollywoodiyas cannot even make a 10-minute documentary without putting propaganda in it.
Anyway, we have another reason to #BoycottLalSinghChaddha.
